Soured on jocks and intent on finding out whether I had a novel in me, I presented a fictionalized NBA and a tortured, charismatic Multnomah County (Portland, Oregon) Deputy District Attorney who gets involved when a Portland player is nailed for drugs and sex with a young basketball groupie. Publishers Weekly called this my "ace debut" (in fiction).
